Malay Literary 24hr Short-Story Writing Competition by PBMUKS

The National University of Singapore Malay Language Society (PBMUKS) will be holding a 24-hour Short Story Competition – Sedetik Seiring Kekata this coming December. The competition is a novel brainchild of the Literary Department which aims to provide a platform for budding writers who wish to challenge themselves against time. This competition entails two different categories; one targeting students from secondary schools to tertiary institutions, and the other is opened to public.

Event Description:
Based on a royal decor setting at Taman Warisan Melayu - Malay Heritage Centre, Sedetik Seiring Kekata has a distinctive feature of a 24-hour quarantine for its participants to produce an original literary piece of short story within the time limit. Sedetik Seiring Kekata is definitely not a competition without a challenge. Throughout the course of the quarantine period, participants will be exposed to various situational stimuli that may invoke a different approach to their writing. Apart from this, there will also be a periodic feed of words or phrases, which will warrant the participants bonus points should these words/phrases be inserted pertinently in their storylines. On top of that, participants will also be allowed to track down the historical vicinity of Kampung Glam and experience the lasting heritage first-hand.
